Campus Involvement

The women of Pi Beta Phi recognize that reading is the foundation of lifelong achievements and fulfillment for individuals. Without literacy, people struggle to do every tasks and unfortunately too many children struggle with literacy in America. Their futures are the reason we devote our philanthropic efforts to igniting the desire to learn by inspiring a love of reading and sparking young imaginations. All chapters are built on one premise--the impact we can have when we connect with a child through the power of reading. By the time Pi Beta Phi celebrated its 150th anniversary in the Spring of 2017, we have empowered more than 1 million individuals to achieve their dreams through literacy.

The great part about Philanthropy for Pi Beta Phi and all Greeks on campus is that we as ME Alpha chapters get to come together to support our different philanthropies and causes, and bond with other Greek’s at the same time while doing so. We have old annual traditions as well as new events that add to these traditions. As Pi Phi's, our Philanthropy is near and dear to our heart. We as sisters take pride in coming together to help others in need, as well as supporting Pi Phi organizations.

Current Philanthropy Events!

Arrowspike - Annual volleyball tournament, teams compete to win the title of arrowspike champion. This event is well attended by many groups, clubs, organizations and other students on campus making it a very exciting event!

Pumpkin Bust - In past years we have teamed up with UMaines chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha to have the Pumpkin Bust event. This even consists of all of the great fall activities; pumpkin painting, apple cider, caramel apples, cornhole, and other fall games that allow for us to share the beautiful fall with the UMaine campus and surrounding community members.

Pi Phi x Fiji Christmas - In collaboration with UMaines chapter of Phi Gamma Delta, we work together to put on a toy drive to support local organizations. This event is a great way to get the community into the winter and holiday spirit, and sisters make it exciting by reaching out to staff and faculty of the school to invite them to this event!

Carnations & Crushes -  The week leading up to valentine's day, sisters sell flowers with messages to be delivered to the recipients doorstep on valentines day! This is a great way to make people feel appreciated and valued, while improving our community involvement.

Book Drive - Sisters and the community donate books to benefit a local school's library. This event is very near and dear to our heart, and it makes us as a chapter truly value children's literacy even more each time we do the book drive.
